About the Latina Wage Gap

Closing the U.S. Latina pay gap is a key part of our vision. We believe it is vital to pay Latinas equitably. What does the Latina wage gap have to do with books and publishing? Current and historical industry pay practices have been far from equitable, on a number of fronts, and disproportionately affect people of color.

As a Latina-owned business invested in the empowerment of our community, we are taking this issue head on and commit to raising awareness, consciously hiring and paying fair wages.

Did you know that on average U.S. Latinas earn about 55 cents for every dollar earned by a White man. In some states, like California, the wage gap is wider. In California, Latinas make 42 cents for every dollar earned by a White man. The pay gap is larger for Latinas than for any other ethnic group in this country.

What is the real world impact of these numbers? The pay gap consequences are multifaceted. For example, compared to a White man working to age 60, a Latina earning 54 cents to his dollar would have to work until age 116 to equal his lifetime earnings. For Latina mothers, the situation is even more dire, they earn about 55% less than white fathers.

Are you horrified by these numbers? We are. We see our entrepreneurial journey as a way to help advocate for and to be the change we desperately want to see in the world.

We believe it is vital to equitably pay Latinas and help close the wage gap. As we build, create and grow, we are consciously paying attention to who and how much we pay.
